Inspired by the 2024 US election. I do follow proceedings closely, and I have a clear and firm opinion on who I would prefer to see in the White House, but then again, as a UK citizen watching from 'across the pond', it's really not my place to get involved.
So I've kept the lyric loose. Yes, the bibles and sneakers are being flogged by Trump - the bathrobes are being sold by the My Pillow guy. But the bedsheets that I refer to were actually being advertised by Michael Cohen, currently an enthusiastic anti-Trumper. They're all at it.
The song was written and recorded in April 2024 so God knows what the situation will be by the time November rolls around.. anyway here's a snaphot from a place in time, and a view from afar.
The riff, by the way, is pinched from Jessie Mae Hemphill, who was a great, raunchy, one woman boogie band in her day. I was fortunate enough to share a festival bill with her back in the 80s - the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland Oregon. At the time, to my discredit, I didn't know of her music, so I just saw an old lady with a guitar and some blues. Good stuff though.
And I love the cover artwork.. from an old fairground 'Ghost Train' ride. Perfect.. election 2024 - USA and UK - here comes the Blues Train.
lyrics
They're selling Bibles and Bathrobes oh so easy to do
They're selling Sneakers and Stickers yeah they're right here for you
Well Bedsheets and Buttons yeah right on your TV
Looks like business as usual to me
You say don't worry now its gonna be fine
I see a whole lot of trouble comin down the line
Blues Train
Blues Train..
Yeah I'm just sittin here across the pond
I ain't got no say got no way to respond
Well some people say they don't understand all the fuss
Some people say it aint got nothin' to do with us
Yeah go ahead now do what you want to do
But I'd like to have a planet left to come home to
Blues Train
Yeah go ahead now do what you want to do
But i'd like to have a planet left to come home to
The Blues Train
